This antique sterling silver initial letter monogram brooch pin comes from the American designer and art dealer Fred Davis who was an influential figure during the Mexican jewellery renaisssance that began in the 1940s.

Not as well-known as some of his contemporaries, the jewellery designs of Fred Davis are still highly collectible for their emphasis on strong geometric forms and sculpted silhouettes. His use of light and dark is considered some of the finest silver work produced in Mexico and as is evident in this brooch, the antiqued blackened patina that develops over time only serves to highlight the complexity of how his designs were executed.  

The brooch features a heavy twisted rope border framing a large deer inside the letter Q surrounded by climbing vines and leaves. It closes with a simple hook and a more recent safety pin is attached to keep it in place.
