      Vintage Mexican Jewellery

      The Mexican silver renaissance that began in the 1930s in Taxco produced some of the most influential silversmiths and jewellery designers to ever emerge from Mexico.

      Taxco became a hub for both Mexican and international artists and creatives, drawn by the appeal of an industry that began with the iconic jewellery and flatware produced to exacting standards in the workshops of William Spratling.

      Classic Taxco Jewellery – Style that Never Dates

      The jewellery designs of William Spratling and the many other famous silver masters to emerge from the 1930s and onwards were as unique as they were iconic.

      Ahead of their time, the bold minimalist jewellery of master silversmiths like Antonio Pineda and Hector Aguilar still look modern today, almost 100 years after many of these pieces were originally hand-crafted. Highly original and highly collectible, this is artisanal Mexican jewellery to be appreciated, gifted with intent and treasured.

      Tiffany & Co – the Mexican Connection

      Just as famous artists, musicians and celebrities flocked to Taxco, Mexico from the 1940s so did many large jewellery brands like Tiffany & Co, Cartier and Coro.

      During the 1950s to 1980s Tiffany & Co. commissioned many high-end sterling silver jewellery pieces from experienced silversmiths in Taxco. You can still find Tiffany jewellery marked with ‘Tiffany & Co.’ along with ‘Mexico’ or ‘Taxco’. These unique pieces are highly collectible pieces as they combine the refined quality expected of high-end Tiffany jewellery with the artisanal feel of handmade Mexican silver craftsmanship.

      Yes, it is. Jewellery from the early twentieth century by designers like Willliam Spratling, Antonio Pineda, Los Castillo, Hector Aguilar and many of the other master silversmiths who worked in Taxco, Mexico during that time is highly sought-after.

      Attracted by the level of craftsmanship, Tiffany & Co. worked with silversmiths in Taxco during the middle of the century. American costume jewellery brands like Coro and high-end retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus also had their jewellery produced in Taxco. Vintage pieces from these brands stamped with ‘Mexico’ are highly collectible.

      Yes, they are. We love Mexican jewellery, old and new and here on this page we include some of the vintage jewellery designs from our collection for sale to the general public.

      Our vintage pieces are mostly stamped with the signature, workshop, Mexican government number or eagle number of the original designer in Taxco, Mexico. The Birmingham assay office advises that pre-1960 silver jewellery does not require a British hallmark.
