Matilde Poulat designs are instantly recognisable for the ornate lovebird and floral motifs decorated with turquoise and coral cabochons. Often identified simply as MATL (a derivation of the Aztec word for water and Matilde's name), these beautifully ornate pieces of jewellery remain highly collectible for their unique repoussse silverwork and style. 

Matilde Poulat opened her first store in 1934 and her nephew Ricardo Salas worked with her through-out her designing and silver manufaturing career. This breath-taking Mexican early vintage Ricardo Salas for Matilde Poulat design brooch/pin features her iconic lovebird motif decorated with bezel-set turquoise and coral beadwork. The brooch has it's original mid 20th century patina. 

The addition of a pendant adjuster means this unique brooch and can also be worn as a pendant on a chain. Early MATL designs of this quality rarely come up for sale, making this large brooch a truly heirloom worthy addition to any fine jewellery collection.
