Damaso Gallegos pieces are distinctive for their use of Mesoamerican and Aztec motifs set with amethyst and amethyst quartz gemstones. This is not surprising given that he trained under Hector Aguilar at the Taller Borda where these motifs were always front and centre in jewellery and flatware designs.
This stunning little pill box uses strong organic lines to elevate a simple bird design into art. Made around the mid 20th century, the box features an amethyst gemstone set in the middle of the lid to draw the eye to the centre of this well-crafted little box. The box opens on a functioning hinge and the silver retains most of its original patina n the grooves and joints of this well-made Vintage Taxco design.
